Immerse yourself in one of Kenya’s most iconic wildlife destinations. Enjoy the vast savannahs, where you'll encounter Africa's "Big Five" lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, and rhinos along with a variety of other wildlife. Get to enjoy the wildebeest migration around late July to August with parts of September and again on their return south, around the last two weeks of October through early November. The adventure includes camping under the stars, navigating through diverse landscapes, and exploring the reserve's rich ecosystems. You may also experience Maasai cultural interactions and visit traditional villages. The trip combines public transport transfers, thrilling game drives, scenic beauty, and a chance to truly connect with nature in one of the world’s premier safari destinations.
Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve
After meeting with Africa Unlocked Tours and Travel Guide, you will make your way to Narok matatu/bus stop (this will be communicated prior), where you'll board a public transport bus or shuttle (matatu) from Nairobi to Narok town. The scenic 3-hour drive takes you through the iconic Great Rift Valley. Arrive in Narok town for a short washroom break (optional), followed by a transfer via a matatu or bush taxis to your camp near Masai Mara. You will check in at Sunset Mara Camp (or similar), an eco-friendly, budget accommodation situated near the park. At the camp, guests are allowed to settle in and unwind over dinner while enjoying the peaceful sounds of the African bush.
Dinner and Overnight: Sunset Mara Camp (or similar)
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Masai Mara
After breakfast, set out for a full-day game drive in Masai Mara at around 6:00 am with a packed lunch. The full-day safari maximizes your chances of seeing the diverse wildlife in the reserve, from the Big Five (lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos) to cheetahs, hyenas, and an array of herbivores like zebras and wildebeests. Keep an eye out for vultures, eagles, and other bird species, as Masai Mara is home to more than 400 bird species. In the late afternoon at around 6:00 pm, return to the camp for relaxation.
Dinner and Overnight: Sunset Mara Camp (or similar)
Day 3: Return to Nairobi
After breakfast at around 8:00 am, you will check out and with the help of Africa Unlocked Tours and Travel guide get a bush taxi transfer to Narok town. In Narok, board an Easy Coach Bus or Narok Matatu Shuttle for your return to Nairobi. Enjoy the scenic drive back as the trip comes to an end. You will be dropped at accessible areas where you can then get a taxi to your accommodation or the airport.
